In our continued efforts to bring the most advanced technology available to our patients, Dr. Paul is proud to announce the inclusion of the optomap® Retinal Exam as an integral part of your eye exam today.
Many eye problems can develop without warning and progress with no symptoms. Early on, you might not even notice any change in your vision. However, diseases such as macular degeneration, glaucoma, retinal tears or detachments, as well as other health problems such as diabetes and high blood pressure can be detected with a thorough exam of the retina. The retina is the part of your eye that catches the image of what you are looking at, similar to the film in a camera.
Annual eye exams are vital to maintaining your vision and overall health. In our continuing efforts to bring the most advanced technology available to our patients, Advance Eyecare of Chino is proud to announce the inclusion of the iWellnessExam as an important part of our complete eye examination. Similar to an MRI or CT scan for the eye, the iWellnessExam uses spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) to produce cross sectional images of the retinal layers – which is sensitive area of the back of your eye – in a matter of seconds. Many eye problems can develop without warning and progress without symptoms. In early stages, you may not even notice a change in your vision. But sight threatening conditions and diseases such as macular degeneration, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy and others can be detected with a thorough exam of the retina, including the iWellnessExam. In just the few months we have had this technology we have found some very significant problems with our patients but at stages where treatment can be helpful.
The iWellnessExam provides:
- Detailed SD-OCT scan reports to show a healthy eye or detect early signs of disease.
- Thickness maps of the retina and ganglion cell complex giving your doctor detailed information simply not available with other methods.
- The opportunity for you to view and discuss your iWellnessExam scan reports with your doctor at the time of your exam.
- A permanent record for your file, which allows Dr. Paul to compare your iWellnessExam scan reports each year to look for changes.
The iWellnessExam is fast, easy, and comfortable for patients of all ages and provides your doctor with valuable information about the health of your most precious gift – your sight.
An optomap® Retinal Exam provides:
- A scan to confirm a healthy eye or, to detect the presence of disease.
- An overview or map of the retina, giving Dr. Paul a more detailed view than can be achieved by other means.
- The opportunity for you to view and discuss the optomap® images of your eye with Dr. Paul at the time of your exam.
- A permanent record for your medical file, enabling Doctor Paul to make important comparisons if potential problems show themselves at a future examination.
The optomap® Retinal Exam is fast, easy, and comfortable.
PLEASE NOTE: The optomap® Retinal Exam may be a “non-covered service” with your health plan, meaning that you would be responsible for the charges. Dr. Paul strongly believes the optomap® Retinal Exam is an essential part of your comprehensive eye exam and highly recommends it for all patients once per year. Our fee for the optomap® Retinal Exam is $39.
Visual Field Testing
The special procedure of measuring visual fields is called perimetry. It is specifically indicated in glaucoma and other neurologic conditions. It is an automated procedure, wherein repeated light stimulus of varying intensities appears in different parts of the field. Fields are charted on the basis of patient’s perception of these lights, while his/her eye is focused on a central spot. The results obtained from the patient are then compared with those of the age matched normal population and the amount of damage is quantified.
It is a simple, painless out-patient procedure. This test is invaluable in diagnosing, and monitoring the treatment in patients with glaucoma. A patient typically requires multiple sittings of this investigation over a period of time to monitor the progression of the disease.
It is also useful in certain neurological conditions that may affect the optic nerve of the eye. It can also be used the quantify defects of some visually toxic medications as well as to quantify problems affecting the occipital lobe of the brain. Life threatening conditions of the visual pathway such as brain tumors, tumors behind the eye can be detected with this machine. Dr. Paul recently detected a retinal detachment with the use of this technology and recommends that all his patients undergo a 3 minute visual field screening using this equipment.
Corneal Mapping – Topography
Corneal topogrpahy is a non-invasive medical imaging technique for mapping the surface curvature of the cornea, the outer structure of the eye. Since the cornea is normally responsible for some 70% of the eye’s refractive power, its topography is of critical importance in determining the quality of vision.
The 3D map is therefore a valuable aid for Dr. Paul and can assist in the diagnosis and treatment of a number of conditions; in planning refractive surgery such as LASIK and evaluation of its results; or in assessing the fit of contact lenses. Other uses of this technology include the fitting and treatment of myopia reduction with CRT and monitoring corneal shape changes from surgical treatment like RK or scarred corneas from injury. The development of topography extends the measurement range from just the central area to a grid of thousands of points covering the entire cornea. The procedure is carried out in seconds and is completely painless.
Visioffice Interactive System
The Visioffice System is a patented 3D program that allows Dr. Paul to provide the most precise measurements of frames and lenses as they relate to his patients. This technology performs and records up to 20 individual measurements of how a frame and lenses fit on your face including distance between eyes, distance from the face, wrap componet of the frame and optical centers – the “eyecode” for your eyes. This therefore allows us to provide you with the most “customized” and “individualized” lenses possible. A streaming video component allows patients to view themselves at various angles to help thme in their frame selection process. Visioffice allows us to provide the best visual solution for our patients and compare what their lenses with be in different materials for thickness and how is to see with a non glare lens or polaroid sun lenses.
